A little about me
Hello, I’m glad you found me. I’m Joshua McBride, Idaho native, Licensed Professional Counselor and a veteran with twenty years of military service. Those two decades shaped me—teaching me steadiness under pressure, respect for discipline, and a deep appreciation for the quiet strength it takes to face life’s toughest challenges.
My therapy style is rooted in psychodynamic work, because I believe the past always leaves its fingerprints on the present. But talking alone isn’t enough. I weave in somatic practices to help you notice where stress and old memories live in the body, and I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and hypnotherapy to reach the parts of the mind that words can’t always touch.
Clients often tell me they value the balance I bring: direct and down-to-earth when clarity is needed, but patient and open when it’s time to listen. Whether you’re a veteran, a first responder, or simply someone ready to stop carrying old burdens, I offer a space where you can dig deep, find your footing, and start living with more purpose and ease.
I specialize in working with individuals navigating trauma, grief, and the lasting impact of difficult life experiences, including those unique to veterans and the challenges of reintegration. My practice also supports clients facing major life transitions, questions of identity and purpose, and the complexities of men’s issues in a changing world. I work with depression and anxiety not simply as symptoms to eliminate, but as meaningful signals that invite deeper understanding and change. For those drawn to it, I also incorporate exploration of spirituality as a dimension of healing and growth—helping clients connect to a deeper sense of meaning, integration, and wholeness.
At Out of the Shadows, my goal is simple: help you bring what’s hidden into the light so you can move forward stronger, clearer, and more fully yourself
